Sunday Morning Servers are individuals who give their time and talent to make each weekly Eucharist a transformative and beautiful event. Although their gifts and callings are diverse, their goal is the same: to offer you a space each week to come and meet God in the Eucharist.
If you would like to be a part of any of these ministries, please speak with Rev. Nancy Meyer, the deacon, and she can help make sure you are connected to the appropriate ministry leaders.
Greeters
The primary role of the greeter is to warmly and enthusiastically welcome all people who enter into St. Peter's. Greeters also hand out bulletins, assist visitors with any questions, bring forth the gifts of bread and wine, collect and bring forth the offering, direct people during communion, and perform a quick cleanup of the church after services.
Readers
The role of the lay reader is to publicly proclaim the Word of the Lord to the people assembled in the congregation. There are two lay readers at each Sunday service -- one to read an Old Testament reading and one to read a New Testament reading. If you would like to become a lay reader, please speak with Allen Heinnemann, who completes the reader/intercessor schedule for every quarter.
Intercessors
The role of the intercessor is to lead the prayers of the people. There is one intercessor at each Sunday service. If you would like to become an intercessor, please speak with Allen Heinnemann, who completes the reader/intercessor schedule for every quarter.
Acolytes
The primary role of the acolyte is to assist in the proclamation of the Gospel by serving the priest and deacon during services. Acolytes light the altar candles before Sunday services begin, march in carrying candles and the crucifix, collect the offerings presented by the congregation from the greeters, help set the altar during communion, march out of the church with the candles and crucifix, and extinguish the altar candles during the recessional.
Altar Guild
The primary role of altar guild members is to care for the physical objects of worship which God has entrusted to us. Altar guild members prepare and clean church vestments, altar linens, altar frontals, polish silver pieces used during services, and prepare the church for changing seasons throughout the year. If you would like to partake in this ministry please speak with Rev. Nancy Meyer.
Flower Guild
The primary role of flower guild members is to create floral arrangements for Sunday morning Eucharists and other special events which reflect the beauty and creativity of God in His creation. Flower guild members prepare the floral arrangements on both the high altar and side altar, and during Eastertide, also decorate the Paschal candle. If you've never arranged flowers before don't fear! Members of the flower guild will guide you through the process.
Want to provide flowers for a Sunday Eucharist?
In St. Peter's commitment to improving the world, in ways big and small, we have partnered with a service called Urban Meadows to provide for our weekly flower needs. Urban Meadows is a nonprofit florist providing jobs and services to those recovering from mental illnesses. Our patronage helps further their mission.
If you would like to donate flowers for either the High Altar of the Side Altar, please sign up in the church or contact the parish office at (773) 525-0844.
High Altar flowers require a donation of $50 and Side Altar flower require a donation of $35.
